When I checked the post and looked for more information, I got sad! The event is already finished. It was held last October 3 at the SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds. How did I miss it?

Aside from being eco-friendly, I am also a breast cancer supporter in my own little way and I have been waiting for this event to show my support to this advocacy. I have seen relatives and family members of my friends passed away because of breast cancer. However, when I personally saw how my friend Mavic Pebte battled and left us because of this dreaded disease, I promised myself that I will contribute to the awareness of this illness. To make it up for missing this event, at the same time, contribute to the information campaign for breast cancer awareness, I am posting one of the episodes of I-Witness, "Madibdibang Usapan", where Mavic was featured.

Mavic was one of my colleagues in the first call center I worked for. She is one of my batchmates in our training for the sales account where I transferred after being a Technical Support representative for two years. In her introduction to the class, she was proud to say that she was a breast cancer survivor. I instantly admired her courage! We became close during the training and after learning that we live in the same city, it brought us closer and developed the friendship later on. After six months, we learned that her breast cancer reoccurred and has metastasized to her bones. We were really saddened and affected by the findings. But she was indeed a woman of courage! She continued to work while undergoing chemotherapy and taking care of her children and sick mother.

Last year, I heard from a common friend that she was back to the hospital and just waiting for her "time". We paid her a visit. She was not the same cheerful Mavic we used to know. When I saw her, I told my friends we are lucky if she will stay with us until the following month. Two weeks after our visit to her, we received the news from her kids that she passed away.

Though it has been more than a year ago, the mere mention of breast cancer brings her back to my mind and my heart. I miss her and her antics. But knowing that she is now at peace with our Creator, no more pain and suffering, I am happy for her.

Pinay Mompreneurs: My Other Blog

I have another blog which I called Pinay Mompreneurs. The niche was inspired by one of my oDesk clients, Jen Dalitz of Sphinxx. The goal of the blog is to feature Filipina enterpreneurs and "mompreneurs" and promote their products and services. Unfortunately, I did not receive any feedback on the invitations for interviews I sent out. Sad... So, I decided to leave the blog and let it die naturally.

While doing a research for my client, I found out that my Pinay Mompreneurs is on page 4 of a specific keyword. "Not bad," I said to myself... considering that I have not updated the blog for the past couple of months. Then, using another keyword, the blog came out on the list of related blogs on the first page! This inspired me to revive my other blog. However, the feeling of being turned down again ran through and gave me second thoughts whether I should push through with the plan or not.

I guess I have to look for other batch of referrals and sources and compile their profiles before posting them so that posts will be continuous... I love watching these kinds of shows because I learn a lot from them... some stuff that I can apply in everyday living.

One of the shows my husband and I started to watch every Saturday morning is Pinoy MD. The show basically discusses health facts and provides very rich information on keeping our bodies healthy and how to have healthy lifestyle without spending a lot from your pocket.

Last month, Pinoy MD was given another time slot for Sunday mornings. They also added two new and young doctors. When we learned that one of the new doctors is an internist, without batting an eyelash, we knew then that he will be <a href=http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=834529245"">Dr. Oyie Balburias. Our guess was just right! When I saw the TV commercial showing his name and photo, I called my husband to see it. We also received a text message from my sister-in-law, Oyie's mom, that he will be the one of the new hosts of the show. My husband was definitely just as proud as his family members and other relatives. Why not? Doc Oyie is his nephew! His mom is one of his elder sisters.

Doc Oyie, for those who are not familiar with him, was also one of the four hosts of the defunct Rx Men, also a health and lifestyle show from QTV channel some 5 years ago. During that time, he was just starting to carve his name on his chosen profession. RX Men gave him the opportunity to be seen on TV. It also gave us the opportunity to introduce him to our children who rarely sees him.

This reminds me that our youngest daughter have not met him yet. I was still pregnant with her when we last see him on my mother-in-law's burial. My daughter has turned 4 years old last October 1st. So, that was 4 years ago. I wonder when my daughter will be able to meet him in person. I hope soon... but not in another family member's burial....

Back from Hiatus!

I'm back...again! It has been several months since I last published a post on this blog. After going on hiatus, I decided to write again. I know in my heart writing and photography are my passion.

Admittedly, I was too busy with my family, the kids and the newfound job. The itch to write is always there but I just cannot find the time to do so. Now that I have found a trusted and reliable helper, I should be able to write off all the ideas I have in my mind. Looking back, I could not believe that I had 6 helpers in a span of 6 5 months! Something that never happened to us before and hopefully, will never happen again.

At any rate, I am back to blogging... back to oDesk jobs... hopefully, for good. :)

Happy Father's Day!

Today, as we honor the fathers in the world, I would also like to honor my husband for being the best father he can be to our children.

And of course, my father for giving us and providing for us while he was still in this world.

I love you both!

Happy Independence Day!

Today, the Philippines commemorates its 112th Independence Day. The Philippines was under the Spanish government for more than 300 years. It was Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo who proclaimed the Philippines as a sovereign republic after they defeated the Spaniards on the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.

As my share of our independence celebration, I am posting here a video of the song "Mga Kababayan ko" by the late rapper artist Francis Magalona. I chose this song because this is very inspirational. It reminds me that Filipinos should strive and be confident that we can reach our goals and ambitions. We should be confident and never be ashamed of our color and race. The song also describes the different characteristics of the Filipinos.

I actually found another video of the song, a better one indeed but the video embed code is disabled. Almost two weeks of absence felt like a lifetime without a post. Naah! It's not I don't have topics and experiences to share, I was just really busy.

With the school year coming in, school-hunting and enrollment added to my already hectic schedule. Being a mom working in the corporate world and having a part-time job at home with three kids to look after, the 24 hours we have each day is not enough. Life has lots to offer and we don't want to miss any of them.

There are also a lot of things running through my mind. I wanted to start with a new blog, a photo blog and a niche blog. I already have the niche in mind. I am preparing topics to post. I do not want these blogs to end up like my other blog, Pinay Mompreneur. Though the mission and vision of this blog is good, it seemed that nobody would like to participate. Among several email invitations for interview that I sent, only one responded so I did not push through with it anymore. Saddening. Thus, I decided to create another blog with a niche that will only rely on myself for topics to post. At first, I wanted to create a food blog. But I have seen a lot of them already and I don't have a nice kitchen to boast of. LOL. Moreover, I am not a master in the kitchen. I only know the basics. People may laugh at my posts. So, I thought of this blog I am sure more people will like. What these blogs are all about? You'll get to know about them when the right time comes.

I don't want to kill the excitement so I better head back and make more posts.

The Day I Fired Our Nanny

As I mentioned in my previous post, I fired out our nanny last Friday. I already reached the point I got so pissed off I will not be able to stand seeing her for another minute longer.

Everything started last Wednesday. When I took a bath that morning, my younger kids also took their morning bath. They have probably missed our bath time together so we took shower altogether. Afterwards, my husband dressed them up. However, when my husband and I arrived later that day, they were still wearing the same clothes! We already explained the rule to her - shower after lunch before their afternoon nap then give them another shower after they played in the afternoon. To answer the questions in our minds, we asked their nanny why she did not give the kids a bath in the afternoon. We asked my niece who is spending vacation with us if the kids took their bath. She said they did not. So, my husband confronted the nanny but shed denied it, giving a lame excuse that my niece was too busy playing in the computer so she did not notice. She also said that she changed Joma's clothes but she did not give him a bath because he does not want to. Duh!

After about an hour, one of our neighbors came in and asked for help because her helper got locked up in the other unit while chasing her cats. After almost an hour of attempting to open the door, we succeeded in opening the door and had a chat with her. She mentioned that my daughter and her playmate are her alarm clocks. They knock on her apartment every morning and wakes her up. We both wondered how can the nanny not notice it when it was also made clear to her that the kids are not allowed to go upstairs nor climb the stairs. By the way, we live in a three-storey apartment building and she lives on the third floor.

The next day, Thursday, I texted my niece during my lunch break to check on the kids. She reported that the nanny's son and his friend borrowed Joma's and E-mann's scooters. My kids are generous enough to let them play with the scooters. After a couple of minutes, my niece noticed the kids went outside to the street. She followed them and saw that they were heading home so she called their attention and asked to return the scooters. I asked what the nanny was doing why she did not notice that her son brought the scooters out in the street, my niece said that she was busy chatting with one of our neighbors!

When we arrived from work, Joma reported that Eiya, my daughter, had a fight with our neighbor's granddaughter. He also showed us her scratches and bruises. It turned out they pinched each other and despite his attempts to stop them, they both would not listen. My husband asked the nanny why she let the two girls fight. She said she tried to stop them but Eiya is just as "maldita" she does not want to heed to her. Another duh!

Friday morning. We promised Joma that we will drive him to school for their party because we cannot attend the part, unlike other parents. Though we were already running late for office, we still fulfilled our promise. Because we were in a hurry, I did not notice that the pants I was wearing was burned. I immediately sent my husband a text message and informed him to fire the helper because I won't bear seeing her in our house for another day.

As soon as we arrive home that afternoon, my husband talked to her and as expected, gave her a litany of her misconduct for the past three days. She even said that in that case, she will only report until Saturday. But my husband was fast enough to respond that it was already her last day and gave her pay. It is a good thing that my niece will be spending another week with us because the new helper will be arriving next week.

Flowers on my Table

I already mentioned in one of my previous blogs that my daughter loves to pick flowers in the garden and give it to me.

When I arrived from work today, I saw three flowers on the keyboard. It has been a week since I last published a post here. The week was very busy I did not notice the days pass by. Time flies so fast!

Tuesday morning surprised us when we received a text message from one of the elders of the CFC_FFL leader we belong. It says in the message that our elder, who is also one of our godfathers in our church wedding, was brought to the hospital because he had a heart attack the night before. Later during the day, we received an update that he was confined at the ICU of Asian Hospital. We visited him at the hospital after office.

I was already stressed as soon as I woke up Wednesday morning. I also have to finish my son's assignment before he leaves for school. I flipped through pages of my magazine collection to look for pictures of different types of stores and the goods they sell. I was able to find a bakeshop, a meat shop, a chicken station, and a hotdog stall. But he forgot to bring it to school! Darn!

It was also my husband's birthday last Wednesday but I was unable to prepare something special for him. I was planning of treating him out to a dinner but I received a text message from my niece, who is spending a two-week vacation with us, that my daughter was caught in a fight with the neighbor's granddaughter. Both of the girls had scratches and bruises so we just bought a tray of pancit from our favorite Manoy and Cucuz and hurried home.

When I arrived home on Thursday, I did my take-home exam. I have to read a 250-page training manual and answer the 40-question test.

I woke up early on Friday morning to fry the hotdogs Joma will be bringing to school. It was the last day of their summer class and they had a small party. I pledged for hotdog-on-stick I am sure the kids will love. We drove him to school before we headed to office.

When I arrived in the office, I noticed that the pair of slacks I was wearing was burned! It was so obvious it was the iron. I got so upset and embarrassed.I immediately texted my husband to inform him that was the last straw. I also told him to talk to the helper and fire her as soon as we arrive home later on the day. I did not notice it immediately because the burned part was in the inner part of the pant between the legs.

We were supposed to attend a dinner party hosted by my husband's high school classmate who came home from the US. But we decided not to go anymore because he has to talk to the children's nanny. I don't want to meddle. I might say more hurtful words to her because I am really pissed off with her.

Saturday is market day. I also have to finish my kgb and oDesk jobs for the week. We also paid another visit to our community elder who was still confined in the hospital. He is already out of ICU but had to undergo angioplasty.

And of course, Sunday is church day. As per the kids' request, we attended the mass in the "malayong church" (Translated: far church). They are actually referring to Mary, Mother of Church Parish in BF Resort Village, Las Pinas City.

Filed Under: family, corporate life, high school reunion, Batch 88, work-at-home, oDesk

First Day at Work

It is my first day at work. The first day of training as well. I am not feeling good but I have to report to work. Normally in call centers, nobody is allowed to be absent during training. I would also like to show the people that I am professional. I feel feverish. I have no voice. Sore throat? Probably. But I would blame cough and colds for my sickness. I would like to show the people I am working with what "The spirit is willing though the body is weak" literally means. LOL.

First day blues? It is not my first job, but I know I will be working with the "cream of the crop" in this industry. Being hired as a senior technician position is a big responsibility.

The usual introduction and orientation on company rules and regulations happened in the morning. After lunch, we had a run down of customer service and call center training. Tomorrow, we will start with the training and discussion of Windows Vista. I am looking forward to this training. I am confident I will learn a lot of things that I can apply in real life.

It surprised me when the trainer said he was glad there are ladies in our batch. He explained that there is only a girl in Tier-2 and she is a lesbian! OMG! That's the reality in the technical world... More men, less women.

Wanted: Nanny

Because I will be starting with regular office work soon, we have to hire someone we can trust who will look after the kids. This has been a problem for over a year now. One of the reasons why I resigned from my previous work is because we had a helper we cannot trust. She does not even respect us! Not even as her employers. Admit it, it is really difficult to look for a helper these days. It is either they demand high salary with less stuff to do around the house or they don't do anything at all, just an additional mouth in your house to feed.

Earlier yesterday, one of the next-door neighbors came in and recommended the daughter-in-law of her sister to be our kids' nanny. I explained that the basic duties are very simple: attend to the kids' needs whenever we are not around and clean the house when the kids are taking their nap or while they are in school. Attending to the children's needs basically means giving them a bath, dressing them up, setting the table during breakfast and lunch because they already know how to feed themselves, and looking after them when they play outside, making sure they don't quarrel with their playmates or their playmates don't bully them. She agreed. She even asked me who will do the laundry and iron the clothes. I said I wash the clothes and we will hire the neighbor's "plantsadora" to do extra job for us once a week. She volunteered to do the chores with extra pay, of course!

Problem solved? Temporarily. I trust my instincts. This lady will not stay long. I feel that she will not be a good nanny for the kids. I told my husband about how I feel but he said we have to hire her or else, the kids will be left alone by themselves. We cannot do that. They are too young. Anyway, my 16-year old niece will be staying here for the next 2 weeks. And I know Joma is very vocal on his comments and observations. Let's wait and see.

Back to the Corporate World

I am earning enough from my online jobs but it was my husband's wish that we go back to the corporate world because we need financial documents for the house that we are planning to loan. Although I know we can pay our mandatory contributions voluntarily, such as SSS, Pag-IBIG and PhilHealth, but paying the tax has been an issue. I have been posting questions on different forums how can I pay my tax being a freelance writer or work-at-home but nobody was able to give me a clear answer. Ask the BIR? I tried, but to no avail. The answer that I received from them is as vague as the ones I got from the forums. They are clueless about work-at-home jobs, much less online jobs! For them working at home means you have your own business. How stupid can they be!

I started looking for jobs since February. I got hired in a call center. It was a one-day application. I signed the contract and reported to work. However, I got shocked with their culture! It was so different from the previous call centers I worked with. Moreover, the salary I received is very low compared to the amount I am able to earn from my online jobs. My two-week salary is only equivalent to a week of my earnings from oDesk! I felt regret over my decision of returning to the corporate world. But I don't want to dwell on it so I continued working. After a month, I cannot stand it anymore! When I told my batchmates about my situation, I realized I was not alone. There were a lot of expectations the company did not and cannot fulfill. Sad.

Along with 2 other colleagues, we applied on other call center. Unlike other call centers with one-day application, this company filters their applicants very well. We endured one whole day of examination and interview. The day ended with a word from the recruitment officer to wait for their call for the final interview. But I never thought it will take almost a month! I remember we applied before the Holy Week and I received the call for the final interview two weeks ago.

I was not my usual self during the final interview. I was so nervous and jittery. I was recommended for a higher position that I was applying for! I got more nervous when I learned it will be a panel interview via video conference. I was afraid there will be questions that I cannot answer. It did happen! I was asked about peer-to-peer network configuration. Something I have never done in my life! Although I am a user of the software we will be supporting, I am not so sure if I can give sufficient technical support to the customers. Well, there will be training but training is not enough where you will learn all things. Despite the unanswered question, I still passed the interview. Whew! That was tough!

Last Thursday, I received a call from the office asking me to report to the office that same afternoon for another exam and job offer, if I pass the exam. Without any helper who will look after the kids, I asked if I can report the next day and explained the reason why. They agreed. When my husband arrived, I told him about the text message and he agreed that the kids will spend the night until the following day in my mom's home. So off we went and drove the kids to Tanza, Cavite.

The following morning, we left early. We visited 2 of their project sites in Las Pinas and Alabang before he drove me off to the office then he proceeded to their project within the vicinity. When I got to the office, I was greeted with a good news that the exam will not push through anymore, effective for our batch. Wow! I was so relieved! Another good thing that happened was seeing a former colleague who will also take the exam and sign the contract. We will be batchmates on the training! I told her about the exam and we waited for the recruitment officer and our contracts. While waiting, of course, we talked and updated ourselves. We will be starting with the training next week.

Now that I have signed the contract, the problem with job hunting is solved. But there is another question that needs to be answered... who will look after the kids? We need a helper ASAP.

Filed Under: family, work-at-home, corporate life

The 2010 Presidential Election

Have you cast your vote today? We used to do this as a family activity. He will drive me to the market and tag the kids with us. I buy stuff while they wait for me at the parking area. That was my dilemma yesterday. My husband reported for work and I cannot bring all my three kids with me. If I leave them at the house, who will look after them? My eldest son volunteered to be left behind saying he is now a big boy. I trust him and I am confident that he can take care of himself. My other son also told me he will stay in the house but my daughter insisted she will go with me. The next-door neighbor agreed to look after the two boys assuring me that they will not go outside. Problem solved.

We go to Bacoor Public Market every weekend to buy fish and vegetables we will have on the table for the entire week. Even when we still live in Las Pinas, I go here for our food supplies. My daughter and I were almost done with the marketing stuff when she heard whispered, "Mommy, si Manny Villar!" (Translated: "Mommy, it's Manny Villar!") I looked where she was pointing at and saw Manny Villar coming and shaking hands with the people. I told myself this is my chance. When he reached the place where we were standing, he shook my hand and I asked him if he can help resolve the water issue in BF Resort Village. He was caught in surprise, maybe because he did not expect anybody from BFRV in Bacoor. But I was more surprised with his response, "Hindi naman akin yun!" (Translated:"The village is not mine.") I know the village is not his! But he lives there! His family, his mom and his siblings all live there! He cannot resolve he issue because the village is not one of his subdivisions? So darn stupid reason! Even if the issue affects him and his family? Now, how can he resolve the country's problems and concerns? He lives here, his family lives here but this is not his property. Philippines is not one of his subdivisions. How can we expect him to resolve the problems of this country then if he gets elected as the next President of this country?

Sorry, Manny. you just lost one vote... and more. I'm sure. I do not wonder anymore why even your neighbors do not want to vote for you.

Filed Under: 2010 Presidential Election, Philippines, politics

Happy Mother's Day!

Mama... Gifts and treats are just added bonus.

Being a mother to 3 small kids, I know the feeling when they come to me just to hug me or kiss me. Each of my kid has their way of showing their love and gratitude to us their parents. My eldest, a 6-year old boy, often says "I love you, Mommy!". He is so vocal with his feelings. My second child, a 4-year old boy, comes to me when he sees me working on the computer and will give me a big hug and say "Mommy, super duper ganda mo." (Translated: Mommy, you're super duper pretty.") And he does it everyday! I will admit I am not really pretty, but I am not too ugly to say I don't look good enough. My youngest, a 3-year old girl, brings me flowers everyday. Definitely not a bouquet! She picks a flower or two from the plants in the garden and she gives it to me. If you will analyze their habits, everyday is a Mother's Day to me. Am I indeed lucky? Yes I am! And I am very proud of my kids. God gave me more than enough reasons why I should thank Him everyday.

Because my kids are too young and do not have their own money yet to buy gifts, I do not expect any wrapped item from them but I did receive a note from Kuya Joma, a hug from E-mann, and a flower from Eiya. They are the best gifts I received since I became a mother!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, moms-to-be and moms-at-heart!

Filed Under: kid stuff, family, Mother's Day

No More Dede Milk!

My eldest is now 6 years old and will be turning 7 in a few months. But sad to say, he still drinks his milk on his feeding bottle. I have been trying to wean him since he was 3 years old. I tried all the techniques and tips I read on books and the Net. Unfortunately, none of them worked. We consider the younger siblings to be the main factor why he cannot be weaned.

He also knows how to respond and he gives the best answer you cannot argue with him! There was even a time when I talked to him and asked him to quit from his bottle. He simply said, "But Mom, I am still a baby! Daddy says I am his baby!" Although Daddy also wanted him to stop. In another situation, he threw a question back to me and asked,"But why me? If I stop, baby sister and baby brother should also stop." During that time, his baby brother was only a year old and baby sister was only a few months old. If bottle feeding is the only way to have him drink his milk, we do not argue with him anymore.

Last night over dinner, we were surprised when he suddenly announced, "Mommy, Daddy, starting today, I will drink my milk from the glass. No more dede milk anymore!" I have to admit it was a mixed emotion for me. I was happy, shocked, and delighted. I gave him a big hug and asked for a reconfirmation. I may be dreaming! But it was for real!

About two hours after dinner, they were all ready to go to bed, he asked for his milk. When I decided to leave the corporate world, I was fortunate to find a good work at home. I wanted to personally attend to my kids, my husband and household chores. It was also then when we decided not to hire a helper anymore. It was very difficult at first but time management is the key. That was a year ago. Now, I have learned how to schedule my activities, my kids', and even family bonding time.

For the past three weeks until the next three weeks, my schedule goes around the house chores, the kids and of course, my work. I wake up as early as 5 AM to start my day and go to bed at 10 PM.

5:00 AM - 5:15 AM - Morning prayer

5:15 AM - 5:30 AM - Read and respond to emails

5:30 AM - 6:00 AM - Work on my blog

6:00 AM - 6:30 AM - Wake up husband. Lucky for those who found trusted house helper because they can concentrate on their work without thinking much of the house chores. Thus, I do most of my work on weekends, especially my articles because Daddy can look after the kids and cook for us. If he does not want to cook or the kids were able to use their charm and convinced him, we eat out. They returned during the mid-afternoon and continued with their campaign.

My kids were excited to see them, especially my daughter when she got hold of a bull cap bearing the mayoralty candidate's name.

Later at around 8PM, we went out after dinner to buy milk and some snacks for the kids. Although there were still some supplies, I saw it as an opportunity to go out of the house because my husband already arrived home and he still has work the following day. I thought I may not find the time to buy the groceries on the weekend because I knew I will be working to finish some tasks.

While on the way to the nearest drugstore where we usually buy the kids'milk, we saw people waiting on the road. We wondered why. Until we saw a banner saying "Aquino-Roxas". Noynoy and Mar will be arriving!!! I asked my husband if we can go back to get the camera and pick up our eldest son. LOL. But he refused, saying that we will miss the motorcade should we drive back home. I was disappointed. Not for myself, but for my son because he is really dying to see Noynoy. There was even a demand from him that he SHOULD meet Noynoy because they have the same last name. It's a different story but I promise I will post it soon.

At any rate, we were able to get hold of some Noynoy-Mar bracelets which we gave to our son when we arrived home and gave a big smile afterwards. Of course, we also received a big hug and kiss!

Filed Under: Philippines, politics, 2010 Presidential Election, kid stuff

Eco-Friendly Habits at Home

Today, people all around the world celebrate Earth Day to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment. April 22, 1970 gave the birth to the first Earth Day through the leadership of U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin.

Earth Day in the Philippines started on the mid-90s. But back then, it was nothing more than a holiday for average Filipinos. It took us years before we realized that our planet is indeed ailing and needs help.

Being frugal mom and an advocate of saving our environment, I teach my family, especially my kids some eco-friendly habits we can do at home. Save the Earth, save money too!

While it is convenient to take a car, I prefer to go on foot if my destination is only a few blocks away. Aside from saving gas, I also take it as an opportunity to exercise because I sit in front of my computer most of the time.

My primary concern at home is plastics. I understand plastics are non-biodegrable so we use plastics at minimum. Whenever I go to market, I use a bag made of sack where I put all the dry goods that I bought, such as fruits and vegetables. I also buy kitchen items in bottles, not plastic containers.

Need a little cash? I get money from my trash. As the old adage goes, "May pera sa basura." (Translated: "there is money on garbage.") As I have mentioned earlier, I buy stuff in bottles. I keep the empty bottles and cans of my kids' milk and sell them on the junk shop nearby.

I also teach my kids to turn off all unused lights and appliances. When they leave the room, they need to turn off the light and the fan they used. When we leave the house, my eldest son unplugs the fan in the bedroom while my second son unplugs the TV and the fan in the living room. It lowers our electricity bill. At the same time, it also reduces the use of nonrenewable sources of energy.

I also teach my family to go lean and green. We all know that vegetables are good for our body... but people do not realize that the habit of eating vegetables is also eco-friendly! Meat production has a very large impact on our environment. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, animals generate almost 18% of greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, I make sure I serve one or two meatless meals in a week. We do not wait for the Lent season and Holy Week to go meatless. I also buy fruits and vegetables that are in season. I also have my own mini-herb garden.

There are other innumerable ways we can do to protect and save the Earth. What eco-friendly habits do you practice at home?

Filed Under: Earth Day, eco-friendly, save the Earth

Palarong Pablik 2010

The Novaliches High School Alumni Sportsfest opened its 3rd Season last April 11 at Dona Isaura Subdivision Covered Court. Hosted by Batch 85, the participating teams paraded around with their pretty muses.

For those who are asking what "Palarong Pablik" is, it is the annual sports celebration of Novaliches High School alumni. It started two years ago when a few alumni decided to spend a weekend of fun-filled sports activities. After a year, members of the NHS Online Community, the online meeting place for all alumni, faculty, students and community members, convened and formed teams according to their batch year. The goal of this sportsfest is to develop the camaraderie and friendship among all alumni members of Novaliches High School. But why "Pablik"? In Novaliches, NHS is more popularly known as Pablik because it was the first public high school in town and the only public high school in Novaliches for several years.

Honestly, I only knew about the opening of the Palarong Pablik 2010 when they posted the pictures on our Facebook group. I remember about a month or two ago when they sent us email asking for some donations for their uniforms and registration. Although a classmate said they did post the schedule, I think I missed that post. I even had the nerve to complain why they did not post the schedule! Only to realize later on that had I known about it, I wouldn't be able watch the game anyway! It was the same day when my husband attended PHCR Grand Alumni Homecoming, his high school alma mater. Hence, I was the "nanny of the day". Sorry about that, guys! Nevertheless, you know you have my support and I promise to watch a game or two as long as you post the schedule of games.

Last year, our team Batch 88 won third place. Of course, like the other teams, we aim to win the most coveted championship this year. We realized our shortcomings last year and I know the team has been practicing since. Our players are totally prepared for this season. Besides, we have more cheerers and supporters this year, making us more confident that we will bag the crown.

Go! Go! Along with other classmates with whom my husband had a reconnection with through Facebook, they gathered themselves and had as much fun that afternoon.

And as expected, the get-together was extended until late evening at Roosters and Crabs in BF Resort Village, where they had a few bottles of drink after the program at their school auditorium.

Their batch held a meeting con batch reunion a couple of days before the homecoming. It was held in one of their classmate's house where they paid for their tickets and distributed their batch shirt. I love their shirt! The color is so striking and it was through their logo that I learned that 1988 is the Year of the Blue Dragon.

Although he has been out of job for several months now, I believe he deserves to join his classmates, reunite with old friends and reminisce their high school days on this momentous event. After all, he did a good job in looking after the kids and preparing delicious dishes for us everyday. He actually aced it! I must admit that he cooks better than me. The kids eat more when he is the one in charge of the kitchen.

Besides, me and my classmates also had our own reunion last year aside from the Grand Alumni Homecoming our Alma Mater had last December. He was very supportive he allowed me to attend those events. He even drove me all the way to Quezon City for the reunion! But as much as I wanted to, he did not allow me to join them on their homecoming even if I tell him that I was also a member of Batch 88. Now that reveals my age! The event was exclusive for alumni only. Well, I already expected it. Spouses and kids were not invited to our alumni homecoming as well.

I will always be proud to tell the whole world that I have a very supportive husband and a loving father to my kids. As I always tell you, I believe you are God's perfect gift to me. October has been a very busy month with all the deadlines and Halloween preparations and activities so I was unable to post these articles. My children also held their Foundation Day program a week before the Halloween so I was really very busy preparing their costumes for both the program and Halloween.

The Foundation Day program focused on the students' dreams and ambitions... on what they want to be when they grow up. A good mind-setting for the children so that they will have their goals as they mature. It was supposed to be held last Sept26 but was postponed due to the typhoons that hit Manila.

Wearing their costumes and fully geared, they walked their way to the stage and recited their speeches in front of the audience. Joma, my eldest child, wore a black shirt and camouflage pants. He expressed his dream of being a policeman, the same profession he declared during the same program two years ago. On the other hand, E-mann, my second son, said he wanted to be a soldier.

I felt pride for my kids. They were not frightened to stand on stage and speak in front of an audience, unlike some of their classmates. The weeks and months of practicing them for their speech paid off.

50 Days Before Christmas

I can't believe it! We only have 50 days left before Christmas!

I can now see neighbors putting up their Christmas lights. Soon, they will have their trees up, too. Christmas carols are now playing on groceries and malls. Their Halloween displays are gone, Christmas decors were put in place.

But, no. I won't put up my decors yet... not until the start of the Advent season of the Catholic church. It usually falls on the last Sunday of November or the first Sunday of December.

Now, this reminds me... I have to free a day on my calendar to shop for the decors I would like to put on our little Christmas tree. Last year, we hung mini-stuffed toys... stuffed bears to be specific and each bear is holding a letter of the alphabet. I opted for these decors to introduce my toddlers to the alphabet. For this year, I want mini-Christmas lanterns... those really small lanterns made of bamboo and wrapped in either cellophane or Japanese paper.

What is your theme or motif for your Christmas decorations this year? Or are you simply frugal and recycle the same old decors each year? I will be glad if you share your Christmas decoration ideas on the comment field below.
